1. What is the difference between a private with unique key, private with common key, and public without key survey type?
A private with unique key survey will only allow your participants to submit one response each.  It does this by sending each person their own unique link to the survey.  Once they have taken the survey, their link will no longer allow them to take the survey again.  Additionally, this survey type allows for delivery tracking, sending intelligent reminders, and using of the 'save and continue later' feature.

A private with common key survey does not prevent participants from taking the survey more than once.  Rather, it ensures that only people with the survey password, which is common to all participants, will be able to take the survey.  Delivery tracking, sending reminders, and 'save and continue later' are not available with the common key survey.

A public survey does not prevent participants from taking the survey multiple times.  Anybody who clicks the link to the survey will be able to participate as many times as they want.  This survey type is ideal if you are posting a link on a website for the public.

10. Can we make surveys anonymous?
Yes, we have an anonymous survey feature that makes personally-identifiable info such as email and IP address not viewable. The system maintains a record of who has responded so that it can send reminders, but the administrator will not be able to view this information. While creating the survey, step 2 of Survey Settings wizard provides the option to make surveys anonymous or semi-anonymous.

11. Can participants print surveys after they finish?
Yes, we have a "Print Survey" feature in Step 6 of Survey Settings that allows participants to print their responses after completing a survey. You can set various print options while creating your survey.

18. Can I edit an active survey?
You may edit the question text and answer option text in an active survey, as well as the text of your comments/messages. This is meant to allow you to correct minor errors such as typos that you may not have noticed prior to launching your survey. You can make these edits by clicking on the EDIT SURVEY TEXT button in the Question Manager.

However, you may not make any structural changes to an active survey, such as adding or removing questions, adding or removing answer options, or changing question types. To help preserve the integrity of your data, these types of changes are not allowed once a survey becomes active.

19. Why can't I edit my survey?
If your survey is expired, you will not be able to edit your survey. In order to edit an expired survey, you must either

  1. Copy the survey and edit the copied version or
  2. Unexpire the survey by changing the date in the Expiration Rules section to some date in the future.

If your survey is in active mode, meaning it is in the field and receiving responses, you will not be able to edit the structure of your survey. You may not make any structural changes to an active survey, such as adding or removing questions, adding or removing answer options, or changing question types.

However, you can correct minor errors such as typos that you may not have noticed prior to launching your survey. You can make these edits by clicking the EDIT SURVEY TEXT button in the Question Manager.

20. How do I add a "thank you" message to my survey?

21. How do I add a header/footer to my survey?
In step 4b of the Survey Settings wizard, click 'Yes' for 'Add Header Message' and 'Add Footer Message' and enter text for header/footer. Header/footer are displayed on each pagetop during survey participation.

22. Can I insert a graphic in the footer of my survey?
Yes, you can insert a graphic in the footer of your survey using HTML code. The graphic will need to be hosted somewhere on the internet in order for you to be able to do this.

23. What is branching and how do I apply branching in my survey?
Branching is the feature used to direct survey respondents to different questions based on how they answer certain questions in your survey.

By using this feature, the survey creator can guide each participant along a 'path' of specific questions based on answers that the participant provides to certain key questions. The participant can be routed around questions that do not apply to them. They will see only those questions that are pertinent to their situation – thereby increasing the accuracy of data and ensuring the survey experience is the shortest possible for each participant. This is important for user convenience and reduces chances of drop outs.

Example:

Page 2 – Question #9: Is there a computer in your home that your child/children can use to access the internet?

If Yes is selected, the respondent will be automatically directed to Page 3 – where follow-up questions are asked about that computer.

If No is selected, the respondent will skip Page 3 and be automatically directed to Page 4 – where questions are asked about other sources for accessing the internet.

SPECIAL NOTE:

  1. Branching is a 'page-to-page dynamic' feature. This means that you are not branching from question to question – but from page to page.
  2. You cannot branch from one question to another question on the same page, to a previous page, or to a page that does not exist.
  3. You cannot have more than one branching question on a single page.
  4. You must arrange your questions in logical groupings, on separate pages in order to implement branching.
  5. Question numbers are not displayed in surveys that contain branching, to prevent possible participant confusion.
  6. Branching logic could lead to a situation where a page exists in the survey, but will never appear while participation.

24. How do I copy a survey?
On the Design a Survey page, click on the COPY SURVEY button, and choose an option if you want to copy the survey in the same account or another account.

Copying into the same account will create a replica of your survey in the same folder in which you are working. Copying in different account will ask for the user ID and password and will create a replica of your survey in the 'Shared' folder of the destination account after verification of user ID and password. top

25. What is the difference between rating and ranking questions?
A rating question is like a drop down that asks users to assign a value/preference to a single item. What makes a rating question different from a normal drop down or radio button is that weights can be attached to each answer option and a weighted average can be calculated for the item based on rating it has been awarded by all respondents.

A ranking question asks you to order a list in terms of your preference for each item in relation to the others. It could force a unique rank for all the items listed and the number of rankings could be lesser than the item count. e.g. A Ranking of top 3 among a list of 10 items.

26. Why are there extra line breaks in my survey questions?
Most often these line breaks are a result of copying/pasting from Microsoft Word into SoGoSurvey. When you do so, you not only copy the text of your questions, but also some special characters (HTML code) into the text editor.
In order to resolve this issue, please copy/paste your text from MS Word into Notepad, and then copy/paste from Notepad into text editor. This will remove all of the special characters from your text and remove the unwanted spaces in your questions.

27. How do I change the font of my survey?
While editing the survey, click on the LOOK AND FEEL button. Beneath the color settings there is a Font Settings option, and you can choose the font type and font size for your entire survey.

28. How do I change the colors in my survey?
Click on the LOOK AND FEEL tab in the Design a Survey. From here, you have three options to change the colors in your survey. Under Color Settings you can click on one of the colored squares and then choose a new color on the color palette. Or you can click the icon at the bottom right corner of this popup window to be able to choose a color from the entire spectrum. After you select a new color, click the SAVE COLOR button. The third option is to type the hexadecimal code right into the system (this is the 6 character code that appears to the right of the color square).

29. How do I upload a logo to my survey?
In the Survey Logo section of the LOOK AND FEEL tab, check the box that says SHOW LOGO. Then, click the button that says UPLOAD A NEW LOGO. Click the BROWSE button and find the file on your computer. After you have selected your file, click the UPLOAD button. Click the SAVE button at the bottom of the page.top
