Categorizing Questions

Since assessments are often organized in multiple sections, it can be helpful to give participants a score for each section. Beyond the overall score, the section score lets the participant know what he or she needs to review.
After you have added all the questions to your assessment in Design, you may categorize your questions into sections on the Assign Scores page.
Follow the steps below to categorize your questions:

  1. Within the Assessment Tool, click on the Design tab.
  2. Select an Assessment, then click Edit.
  3. Click Assign Scores.
  4. Click on the Settings icon on the top left of the page.
  5. For ‘Categorize Survey Questions’, choose Yes.

Now you will see an Add Category option. Simply click on this option to create a question category. You can give the category a name and select the questions that belong to this category. Click Add Category to create multiple question categories. You can create up to 25 question categories for your assessment.
Once you are done with question categorization, you may choose to head to Settings to customize the Thank you message participants see based on their Category scores. Below, learn how to add custom Thank you messages based on specific variables.

Customizing Thank you Messages based on scores and other variables

Customizing Thank you messages for your participants is a good idea, and when it includes customized information relevant to them, it’s even better.
For your Assessments, you can create different Thank you messages based on a participant’s score obtained, percentage obtained, number of correct answers, and even category scores. This allows you to show relevant messages for every person being assessed.
Follow the steps below to create different customized Thank you messages based on participant scores:

  1. Within the Assessment Tool, click on the Design tab.
  2. Select an Assessment, then click Edit.
  3. Click on Settings at the top of the page.
  4. From the menu on the left, click on Thank you Page.
  5. You have two options here: ‘Show a static Thank you message to all the participants’ OR ‘Add Custom Messages’.
  6. If you select to show a static Thank you message to all the participants, you may choose to pipe (insert) data into the message, including Score/Percentage earned, Category Score/Percentage earned, or number of correct/incorrect answers.
  7. If you would like to display different messages for participants based on their scores, select Add Custom Message.
  8. Next, add conditions for the Thank you message. Each message will be displayed to participants when the conditions you specify are met. These conditions can be based on Score/Percentage earned, Category Score/Percentage earned, or number of correct/incorrect answers. You can create up to 10 different Thank you messages here.
  9. In these customized messages, you can also pipe in (insert) these scoring variables to inform participants exactly how they fared in the assessment.

To pipe scoring variables into the Thank you message, follow the steps below:

  1. Within the Assessment Tool, click on the Design tab.
  2. Select an Assessment, then click Edit.
  3. Click on Settings at the top of the page.
  4. From the menu on the left, click on Thank you Page.
  5. Click on the Thank you Message you would like to edit.
  6. Now click ‘Pipe Answers and Scores’ on the right end of the edit menu.
  7. You now have option to insert answers of questions answered by the participant and also scores obtained. Select an appropriate option from the dropdown menu and place your cursor where you want the value to be displayed.
  8. Click the Save button at the bottom of the screen.
