Touch Rules: How and When

Careful planning is a good start in helping you to avoid over-surveying participants. To make it even easier, we have built in a back-up for you to help stop survey fatigue. Touch Rules gives you the chance to avoid this common mistake by preventing email invitations from being sent to individuals who:

  • Received a given number (x) or more invitations on or after a particular date
  • Participated in a given number (y) or more surveys on or after a particular date

For example:

Let’s say you have two lists of email addresses in Contact Lists, List A and List B. You have a few overlapping email addresses that appear in both lists, but you want to avoid sending duplicate invitations. First, you can use List A to send out invitations. Then, while sending invitations with List B, use Touch Rules to filter email addresses that have already been invited to participate.

Applying Touch Rules

  1. Select your survey and click Publish.
  2. Under Publish by Email, select Single-Use Link and proceed by clicking on Continue.
  3. Select the email template you wish to use and proceed.
  4. On the step titled Source of Email Addresses, choose the appropriate source.
  5. Under Additional Publishing Options, select the option Touch Rules and click on Continue.
  6. On the Touch Rules step, you will need to specify the criteria to filter out addresses.
    1. Filter 1: Filter those who have received ‘X’ or more invitations on or after DATE.
      1. Identify a number and a date.
      2. This filter gives you the ability to filter based on the number of invitations the participant has already received as of the particular date.
    2. Filter 2: Filter those who have participated in ‘X’ or more invitations on or after DATE
      1. Identify a number and a date.
      2. This filter gives you the ability to filter based on the number of surveys the participant has already participated in as of the particular date.
  7. Click on the Refresh results (arrows) icon to see the number of matching records to whom the survey will be sent.
  8. Click on Continue to proceed and send out your survey invitations.

The system will only compare email addresses in the Master Log record of your SoGoSurvey account. The system will NOT recognize if this same email address was invited and/or responded to a survey from another SoGoSurvey account.
